The Homespun Peddler GALLERY
All of the graphics that appear on the Homespun Peddler web site are are originals. Either they're scans of our products or they're photos or drawings that one of us, or one of our artist, has done.

Usually our graphics have purpose and contribute to the page. But we also like to just draw or paint or do computer art. So this page just contains images that we like. No reason, no explaination, just images.

All images are copyrighted, even if not specifically noted. Please respect this and don't lift the images without asking permission first. Click here to send us e-mail.

Over time, our web based image collection has grown significantly. As a result, we've developed a number of individual alblums on the web site. The links on this page are of general interest. You might also want to visit our PHOTO ALBUM.

Natural Curiosities
Most wood workers carefully select their wood to be straight and free of knots.
We buy for the knots!
Here's a piece we really love. What do YOU see?

SNOW
In the fall of '98 we had an e-mail discussion with Cindy, a Californian, who was living in Ohio. Cindy was really hoping for a "big snow winter" before she returns to Californai. She wanted the chance to make a real snowman!

Well, the Peddler's family likes snowmen. But we kinda have a "warped" sense of values and also get a little carried away with snow sculpture. So we posted a picture of one of our favorites just for Cindy.

Here's our SNOW DRAGON. Made one cold and snowy night in 1987, he's colored with all the food coloring, then all the water color paint, that we could find in the house. We'd love to recreate this beauty but we've not had packing snow that good in the ten years since then.

After seeing our Dragon, Cindy had to show how to make a California snowman, one that can stand the weather extremes of that balmy climate! Check out her PERMANENT SNOWMAN.

Wood Carvings
Although this page was intended for graphic arts, several of us are also wood carvers and we wanted to show our works too. We have a taste for the unusual as well as the realistic.

Here's a sample of items from our collection of carvings.
WHITTLE DOODLES:
12 inch collection of balls and chains.

Tiny cage, ball and chain. This one is just over 2 inches long and is made from a 1/8" piece of cherry. The "pincer" on the end can be slipped over the page of book and used as a bookmark. Of course it's too delicate to actually DO that... but it was a good idea.

14 inch collection of balls, chains, cages and links.

10 inch series of free cages and a lace cage in cage

10 inch twist with links plus plungers with caged ball cage
This one is almost 25 years old. It once had a tiny ball in cage at the bottom but the drying wood was easily broken.

Tonga nut abstract floral: view A     view B     view C.
The Tonga nut is a type of palm nut from South America. Once used as an ivory substitute, the extremely hard natural material was used for buttons and even dice. Nuts are from 1 to 1.5 inches in size and have a hard brown skin, ivory meat and hollow center cavity. This piece was carved with a small knife and dental tools.
REALISTIC PIECES
Portrait of the artists FINGER in pine. Also a small ball and flame in mahogony

Two cedar insect necllaces. View A     View B.
The artist has carved many insects from cedar twigs. The wood is moderately hard and can be polished to a very deep sheen.

Pair of Great Horned Owl claws. Originally made as awards for a Dallas Boy Scout troop, these claws are made from Bois D'Arc (also called Osage Orange and horseapple).

"BOE-Dark" is native to the south, in particular Texas. It was exported in the mid 1800's throughout the mid-west for use as hedgerows.

These claws were made from a piece of Bois D'Arc collected on a country road near Fenton, Michigan. The wood is extremely hard and can be polished to a beautiful and deep luster. It has a wonderful, natural orange color.

The Santa Collection
Homespun Peddler is known for it's collection of Santas. One of our best sellers is a collection of ultra-limited edition hand carved Santas. Each year our artist has a different theme and carves fewer than 20 pieces. The carvings are hand painted, stained and polished to give them a rich and warm look.
